October 2018 - How did happy hour start?

It’s 4:45 pm and you are counting down until 5:00 pm when that magical time starts at many restaurants and bars. 

You shiver with excitement and can’t wait to get your hands on that $4 glass of wine or beer or discounted pitchers of margaritas. It’s Happy Hour! Do you ever wonder where the phrase came from? Aside from being happy that you can have a drink on the cheap, where did it come from? Happy Hour got its first associations with grown-up socializing in the Navy. There’s evidence of an official “Happy Hour” as early as 1914 on the U.S.S. Arkansas, with a group of “homemakers” coordinating said hours called the “Happy Hour Social.”
